Net Metering
Net metering is the billing arrangement that makes on-grid and hybrid solar systems so cost-effective. It lets you send the solar power you don't use straight back to the grid, in exchange for credits that offset the electricity you draw later — so nothing your panels generate goes to waste.
How it works
1. Bidirectional meter installed
Your utility replaces your existing meter with one that tracks electricity flowing both in and out.
2. Import and export are tracked
Power you draw from the grid and power you export are recorded separately over the billing cycle.
3. Net usage is billed
You're billed only for the difference — what you drew minus what you exported — often at reduced net cost.
